The relationship between people and financial services is changing rapidly. New technologies and channels, as well as a growing range of alternatives, are not only transforming the way we manage our money, but also our expectations of banks, insurance companies, credit providers and other financial services.

Against this backdrop, the ‘Future of Finance’ observatory has emerged – a project by Eumetra dedicated to monitoring the evolution of the banking, insurance and consumer credit sectors.

Its research highlights a number of changes set to reshape this relationship: from growing disintermediation and the integration of financial services into everyday life to an increasingly complex landscape in which navigating the possibilities, risks and new technologies is becoming ever more difficult.

Against this backdrop, a significant need is emerging: not just to have more options, but also to have reliable sources of information that can transform complexity into understandable choices.

Technological innovation is also assessed using a pragmatic approach. While AI and digital technology are now considered inevitable tools, their value depends on their ability to deliver tangible benefits, reduce uncertainty, and ensure people retain control over their decisions.

A multi-layered approach to understanding the future

To build a robust vision of the sector’s evolution, Future of Finance combines three complementary perspectives:

  • We use Trend Watching to pick up on signs of change and identify emerging trends.
  • We consult opinion leaders and experts to understand the implications and trajectories of these trends.
  • We also conduct quantitative research involving interviews with a representative sample of people who manage their household finances.

This approach enables us to look beyond the current situation and connect signals, interpretations and behaviours. This helps us to build a concrete understanding of the market’s future transformations. This is all done from an international perspective, with the research taking into account not only Italy, but also Spain and the United States.

What is the purpose of Future of Finance?

The observatory helps banks, insurance companies, credit institutions and financial operators understand how customers’ needs, behaviours and expectations are evolving and translate these changes into concrete decisions, such as which needs to address, which segments to invest in, how to innovate their offering, and how to build more meaningful relationships.

The first edition is now available. A new wave is about to begin.
